The IWP & RIXS workshop series have been organized every three years since 1992, the last three ones were held near Uppsala (Sweden) in 2008, in Las Vegas (US) in 2011 and Erice (Italy) in 2014. The 2017 edition of IWP/RIXS will take place in Aussois, France from the 26th to the 31st of March 2017. Aussois is a beautiful authentic ski resort nested in Savoie in the French Alpes.

The joint IWP/RIXS2017 workshop aims at covering a broad field related to photoionization/RIXS processes on dilute matter: atoms, molecules, ions, transient species, molecular complexes, clusters, nanoparticles and liquid interfaces. Both experimental and theoretical approaches should be covered as well as new methodologies associated with synchrotron radiation and with short-wavelengths and/or short pulses sources such as FELs and HHG. We intend also to foster interfaces with chemistry, life sciences, and nanosciences.

The program will be composed of invited speakers, contributed oral progress reports (selected from abstract) and posters. A list of invited speakers can be found here. The participation of young researchers and students is particularly welcome.

Further scientific and practical information can be found on the workshopwebsite.

Don’t hesitate to ask for any queries at: conf-IWP_RIXS2017@synchroton-soleil.fr

We are looking forward in seeing you in Aussois next March.

On behalf of the IWP/RIXS2017 Organizing Committee,

The 3 co-chairs Alfred Maquet, Laurent Nahon & Marc Simon

NB:  We have tried to maintain registration fees at a very reasonable level and including lodging and food. However, we have limited funding to provide partial financial support for particular cases.
More information can be found on the website.

HERCULES 2017 – European School
27 Years of Neutron & Synchrotron Radiation Science

2017 session:   27 February-30 March, 2017

HERCULES is a European course for PhD students and young researchers using Neutrons andSynchrotron Radiation for applications in BiologyChemistryPhysicsHard & Soft Condensed Matter.

The 1-month school includes lectures (60%), hands-on practicals and tutorials at partner institutes (Elettra and FERMI in Trieste, ESRFILL in Grenoble, Soleil and LLB near Paris, SLSin Switzerland) and Grenoble Laboratories (CEA, CNRS, EMBL, IBS).

The school  includes a common part and two parallel sessions:
– Biomolecular, soft condensed matter structure & dynamics
– Physics and chemistry of condensed matter

    Why join Hercules ?
– to learn new techniques using neutron and synchrotron radiation
– to expand your theoretical and practical knowledge, not only for your present research but for your scientific career
– to experiment these techniques on world-class instruments & beamlines
– to build a network of relations with fellow young researchers and experienced teachers from all around the World

XII Quark Confinement and Hadron Spectrum

Inaugurated in 1994 in Como, Italy, this series of conferences has become an important forum for scientists working on strong interactions, stimulating exchanges among theorists and experimentalists as well as across related fields.

The twelfth edition of this conference series will take place in Thessaloniki (Greece) from 29th August to 3rd September 2016 in Makedonia Palace conference centre. Thessaloniki, founded more than 2500 years ago in the north Greece, overlooking the gulf of Thermaikos, has always been a meeting point for people of different cultures. Today, a modern city with marks of the past, is an inspiring place welcoming international events and conferences.

This edition of the conference is dedicated to the memory of Michael Müller-Preußker. His scientific contribution will be remembered during the conference.

The conference will also include a variety of events addressing school children and general public as well as different cultural events open to the public.

The conference will be followed by a Workshop on “Accelerators Revealing the QCD Secrets” that will take place from 3rd to 5th September 2016 in Makedonia Palace conference centre.

Winter College on Optics 2017

The College will address fundamental and experimental aspects of advanced Microscopy, Spectroscopy and related techniques. The scope of the course is to promote new theoretical and experimental methods, concepts, instruments, measurement techniques and data analysis routines for both Laboratory and industrial applications to train students and scientists, as well as to coordinate international activities and collaborations in this area. By focusing on both theory and applications, the College will also provide an interesting intersection of emerging techniques and experimental methods with theoretical advances in the field. The lectures will focus on a variety of topics related to biological applications, environmental research and material characterization. Hands-on sessions will be organized every day of the college in the ICTP laboratories accompanied by library documentation finalized with round-table discussion.

MESON 2016

http://meson.if.uj.edu.pl

The Institute of Physics of Jagiellonian University, Forschungszentrum Jülich, INFN-LNF Frascati and Institute of Nuclear Physics PAS Cracow are organizing a biennial workshop to establish closer contacts between experimentalists and theorists involved in the studies of meson production, properties and interaction. The workshop will cover lectures on both experimental and theoretical aspects, in particular the presentation of new results.

The main topics of the workshop are:

  • hadronic and electromagnetic meson production,
  • meson interaction with mesons, nucleons and nuclei,
  • structure of hadrons,
  • fundamental symmetries,
  • exotic systems,
  • novel approaches in theory and experiment.

The intention is to provide an overview of the present status in these fields, as well as of new developments, and a preview of the forthcoming investigations. This workshop – the fourteenth of the series – will maintain the tradition of the workshops organized since 1991 at Cracow. The proceedings of the most recent workshop, MESON2014 have been published in EPJ Web of Conferences Vol. 81 (2014).

Baryons 2016

logo-Baryons2016

The BARYONS series of international conferences started in 1970 at Duke University, and since then it has been held roughly every three years in important cities around the world. Following the successful conferences in Osaka, Japan in 2010 and Glasgow, Scotland in 2013, the next in the series will be held in 2016 in Tallahassee, Florida. The conference will highlight the physics of baryons and related subjects in particle, nuclear, and astrophysics. The main issues to be discussed are our understanding of the structure and reactions of baryons from the fundamental theory of the strong interaction, Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). In particular, the highly non-perturbative phenomena of quark confinement, mass generation, and spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry will be addressed. Recent developments of new and forthcoming facilities in the world will also be showcased. We strongly encourage the participation of young scientists, including students and postdocs.
